We're a members' golf society playing regular meetings at local golf courses, with a full calendar of monthly medals, monthly trophy competitions with prizes, away days and the odd well-fought turkey trot.

Every meeting is open to members and their guests unless marked members-only. Sign-up emails go out to all members for the Monthly Trophy competitions up to four weeks before the event. The monthly medal competition is self-administering, with info distributed via the club's WhatsApp group chat.

An elite group turned out for yesterday's Drake & Cherry Cups. The weather was good, not burning hot as it could have been. The fairways looked like Nagasaki on a bad day but the greens, a bit slow, and tees were pretty good. There was disruption before the game as a buggy had broken through security and into the car park — Jim and Barry didn't fancy carrying their clubs from the car park, those boys, so "Rock and Roll". The Captain had to wait for Miss Daisy to turn up with his buggy before he could tee off — not a good start for the hobbling old git.
Anyway, I thought the course was good and incredible value, and only £19 for a buggy. Judging by the enormous Dagwood toasted sandwiches and chips that were brought up for lunch, the food seemed to be very good as well.
As expected the ball ran like a mugger with a handbag, so distance control and catching the ball clean was a challenge — pick and place did help, however, if you could identify the fairway. All in all most of us had an enjoyable day. The results were:

50 years of the club
From half a dozen council colleagues playing on Hillingdon's courses to a full society with its own trophies, captains and traditions.
The club began in 1974 when Ray Delavigne, Jim White, Monty Dove and Ed Robbins started playing regularly on the Borough's golf courses. Word spread, more colleagues joined in, and what had been an informal group became a proper society — open to Directors, officers and manual workers alike from every department of the council's employ. Annual membership started at £1, rising over the decades to today's £35.
Monthly medals were first played at Harefield Place, with Haste Hill and Ruislip added later as alternative venues; Haste Hill remains the club's home course today. From 1976 the calendar grew to include days out at courses across the area, and a run of trophies followed that are still played for now: the Bruce Cherry and Richard Drake Cups, the Inter-departmental Cup (now the Team Challenge), the Jubilee Cup, the Challenge and Medal Final Trophies, the Masters, and the season-closing Turkey Shoot.
Nineteen captains have led the club since Ray Delavigne took the role in 1976, each usually serving two years before handing over to their vice-captain. The club marked its 40th anniversary in August 2014 with a gathering at Moor Park, Northwood, and celebrated 50 years in August 2024 — even as two of the Borough's own courses, Ruislip and Uxbridge, have since been lost or reduced to make way for other developments.

- 1977The Bruce Cherry Cup introduced — the first of the club's long-running trophies.
- 1978The Inter-departmental Cup begins, played on today as the Team Challenge.
- 1990The Masters Trophy created, complete with a green jacket for its first winner.
- 201440th Anniversary marked with a special event at Moor Park, Northwood.
- 2024The club celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
Who runs things
Committee & membership
A member-run society — the committee is elected each May at the club's AGM and serves for one year.
Membership
Open to all employees or ex-employees of The London Borough of Hillingdon Council as Full Members, and their family and friends as Associate Members. All golfers will be provided with a valid recognisable handicap via our membership of Golfshake. For new joiners, existing WHS and/or Club Handicap will be accepted. Medal meetings are held over one week per month and Trophy meetings are also held once per month both from March to November, plus an optional 3-day away break each summer.
New members are welcome to play as a guest at any open fixture before joining — just contact the fixtures secretary.
